MEDGE APPLIES FOR DTT LICENSE

A new TV channel aimed at horse-lovers in Sweden is being planned by Medge Consulting.

The company has applied for a licence to launch a digital terrestrial TV channel which it believes will fill a growing need in the Swedish market. One in three Swedish families has a connection with horses. The channel is planned to cover every aspect of the equestrian world, and will attract audiences of all ages.

“We plan to include everything from The World Cup to My Little Pony,” said Timothy Smart. “The channel will highlight the horse world from all angles, and is sure to attract an audience from five years upwards, with animated series, teen drama, action, movies and documentaries.”

Medge is in discussion with equestrian sports rights holders to cover international horse championships - but is keen the channel should reflect all aspects of the horse world. It has applied to launch the new channel on the Boxer digital terrestrial TV network. If successful, it will be on-air from this autumn and show 12-18 hours of programming per day.

Medge Consulting has already launched a successful online horse-riding adventure game, Star Stable. The interactive, virtual 3D world for girls aged 7-15 with a passion for horses, was launched in Sweden last year and will soon be available in the rest of the world.

Medge granted exclusive broadcast rights to MTG, the international entertainment broadcasting group, after extensive negotiations. The deal gives MTG the right to show live coverage of around 1,300 NHL games each season on its pay-TV channels, including dedicated ice hockey channel Viasat Hockey. The live games will also be available on MTG’s Viaplay online multi-screen video streaming service and certain games can be seen on its free-TV channels under the agreement, which runs until the end of the 2015-16 season.

MEDGE CONSULTING AND AMI ACQUIRE THE INTERNATIONAL MEDIA RIGHTS FOR THE NHL (National Hockey League)

Medge Consulting has added to its growing reputation as a major player in media rights by securing an agreement with America’s National Hockey League. Medge, with its partner Advisers Media International (AMI), will represent the NHL’s international media rights for Europe, Africa and the Middle East in a five-year deal starting this coming season. Medge is already the rights holder for the English Premier League for Scandinavia and the International Bandy Federation - now American ice hockey represents another major development for the Swedish-based company.

“This is a long term partnership to further develop the NHL’s presence and products in Europe and beyond,” said Peter Liljestrand, co-founder of Medge. The agreement between Medge and AMI and the NHL establishes a long-term and strategic cooperation to expand, develop and strengthen the NHL brand and presence in international markets. The agreement includes the live HD broadcast rights for up to 480 NHL games per season, including play-offs, Stanley Cup Final and the NHL Winter Classic amongst others and a range of highlights programming and NHL support programming.

Medge and AMI will also assist the international development of NHL properties, including new events. John Collins, COO, NHL, said: “Reconnecting the NHL and its many star international players with their home country fan base is the first important step in a renewed strategy for growing the game and business outside of North America. “Working closely with Medge/AMI we will deliver more NHL games and highlights to our international fans across more platforms and devices than ever before.”
